A Tiddly SFYTT

Just a quick post.  I realized I hadn't yet done the July SFYTT.  What?!  Yea...I know.

Luckily, I had a Tiddly Inks image that I needed to color.

I colored her up using Copics.  The pattern papers are Karen Foster Designs. The card base is Papertrey Ink Stamper's Select cardstock.  The sentiment and moon are stamped on SU! Confetti paper.  I sponged the moon using Memento London Fog and added a few splats in the same color.  The sentiment is from Unity Stamp Co's April SMAK kit.

I really adore Wryn!

Stamp-A-Faire: Tie-Dye Challenge!

Today was Papertrey Ink's first online only Stamp-A-Faire.  You can follow all of the activity on Nicole Heady's blog.

Next was the Tie-Die challenge!

I used the shaving cream technique!

Here is my card:

This was the second card I made. I didn't like the first one, but I was super excited about how this one turned out!  The solid papers are Papertrey Ink's True Black/Stamper Select White and SU!'s Brilliant Blue.  I used Adirondack's Stream and Sailboat alcohol inks in the shaving cream.  The tie-die paper base is actually water color paper.  I was curious to see the difference.  I will use watercolor paper for this technique in the future.

The butterfly is Recollections embellishment.

The Sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's We Go Together Stamp Set.  The rhinestones are just random Michael's stones.  I don't have the tag anymore, but I assume they're Recollections.

to be all that is possible... [Stamp Camp Tag]

This month marks MAL and I's first stamp camp.  I knew when I set it up that for our first class I wanted to teach water embossing.  This, along with the Some Odd Dandelion Fairy card we're going to make, may mean technique overload for our addicts in training, but I figured we'd do it anyway!  If it's too much, I'll simplify for next month.  =o D

That said, here's the "card" (...and by "card", I mean "tag") that we're going to make:

This card will focus on learning water embossing, distressing, and DIY 3D embellishments.  The Tim Holtz feel is obvious, considered this tag is bleeding Ranger/Tim Holtz products.  I'm a fan girl, what can I say?  The sentiment is Tim Holtz.

I distressed the tag with the Ink Blending Tool using Tim Holtz new Summer line of Distressing Inks [Mowed Lawn, Picked Raspberry, and Salty Ocean].  The water embossed images (which get lost on a tag like this, because they're primarily used to add pattern) are a mix of Papertrey Ink's Beautiful Butterflies and Unity Stamp Co's Growing in Unity.  Then I stamped the Tim Holtz Flower Flourish in Papertrey Ink's Fresh Snow to add a limit more pop to the color on the card.

The flourish is cut out of regular ol' Recollections black (My Cricut doesn't like cutting through the fabulous thickness that is Papertrey Ink's True Black Cardstock [Card base...by the way]) using the Cricut Picturesque Cartridge.  The butterfly was made using Papertrey Ink's Beautiful Butterfly die.  I cut the butterfly out three times.  I colored each one by sponge distressing Spiced Marmalade and Fire Brick Distressing Inks.  Then I stamped the image from the Beautiful Butterfly set on each.  I layered and adhered the three together and topped with black rhinestones.  (You're going to be seeing black rhinestones a lot lately.  I have a few hundred of them leftover from my Snowpeople Invitations)  =o )

After adhering the butterfly together, bend the wings up a bit to give it dimension (a trick taught to me by MAL).

...and there you have it!

Some Odd Dandelion Fairy

My stampy friend and I are starting a monthly stamp camp.  For my technique this month, I wanted to teach coloring with Copics.  Some Odd Girl recently had a non-traditional hair challenge (which I won! w00t!).

A few weeks ago, I submitted MAL: Queen of the Entire Freakin' Universe for Unity Stamp Co's Friends with Flair Friday.  One of the dresses in this stamp set has feathers.  I colored them like peacock feathers and loved it.

So, when I saw Some Odd Girl's non-traditional hair challenge, I *really really* wanted to do peacock hair, but I was out of town and had limited resources, so my "wild hair" wasn't so wild.  I still wanted to do the peacock hair.  It sounded great in my head and I needed to see it on paper.  I figured, if it looks good, then I can use it as a sample for stamp camp!  I picked up Some Odd Girl's Dandelion Fairy because I thought she would be perfect for the job! I'm actually really happy with how it turned out:

I wanted to do a simple card, because I didn't want anything to take away from the hair.  Turns out, my simple card took for.ever!

The card base is Papertrey Ink's White Cardstock.  The polka dot pattern paper is from DCWV's dots, plaids, and stripes paper pack.  The yellow is Recollections.  For the clouds, I actually used Papertrey Ink's Tree Tops die.  I die cut a piece of scrap paper to use as a mask. Then used Tim Holt's new Salty Ocean distress ink [not shown on his website] to distress the paper around it to create the sky and clouds, fading toward the bottom.  I created the shadows on the clouds using Copics C1, C2, and C3.  The shading technique was outlined in Some Odd Girl's Facebook Fun Day Tutorial.  Then I just cut two corner pieces in the yellow and applied them to the empty corners.

The big cloud on the bottom is again Papertrey Ink's Tree Tops die.  It makes a great cloud!  I started following the tutorial and hand drawing the clouds.  I didn't like it.  Then I remembered that I got a QuicKutz cloud die *way* back in the day.  As I was searching the die bin for it, I came across the Tree Top die and thought, "Hmph.  Who'da thunk?  That totally looks like a cloud!"  I cut the trunk off and voila!

The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Butterfly Dreams set.

The sun is from Papertrey Ink's Back Pocket Basics stamped in Stampin' Up!'s Crushed Curry [retired].  Again, the little clouds are QuicKutz dies [which, I bought a long time ago and can't find].

So, now on to Dandelion Fairy.  I colored her using Copics:

Hair: BV08, B26, BG18, and YG06.  I did not blend at all.  I wanted it really streaky.
Skin: E11, E00, E000, R81 [Skin is by far my *least* favorite thing to color]
Dress/Shoes: YG09. YG07, E57, E55, B29, B28, and B24.
Wings: BV01, BV000
Dandelion: YG09, YG07, C2

So...there you have it.  She's a little unorthodox, but I think she rocks it!

Celebrate Odd!

Today was Facebook Fun Day over at Some Odd Girl Stamps.  Kristy (Master Odd Girl) sent us on a scavenger hunt around the website.  The prize was Flag Wavin' Mae!

I'm counting down to the end of my vacation, so I wanted to get in as much crafty time as possible.  With the three year-old sufficiently entertained coloring up Giggle Fairy, I got to work.

Here is the card I made:

I thought the Independence Day theme seemed fitting, seeing as how she's wavin' flags.

I colored using Copics:

Hair: E15, E13, Y18, and Y11
Eyes: B14, B12
Skin: E11, E00, E000, and R81
Clothes/Flags: B69, B29, B28, R39, R29, R27, N1, N0

You know what else is perfect for this card?!?!  STICKLES!  So, of course, I busted out the STICKLES!  You know I love my stickles.  =o D

The paper and embellishments are all BoBunny, except for the card base, which is Papertrey Ink's True Black.

Thanks to Some Odd Girl for giving us a bit of fun on a Saturday afternoon.

Game On!

Some Odd Girl challenged us to a Non-Traditional Hair challenge!  That means we can color hair any way we want, as long as it's not the typical blonde, brown, black, etc.

I used my favorite Geeky Mae to make this card:

I just love Geeky Mae.  I colored her using Copics:

Hair: C9, C7, C5, RV14, RV13
Skin: E11, E00, E000, RV11
Clothes, YG09, YG07, YG06, YR09, YR07, YR04.
Eyes: B29, B28

The card base is Papertrey Ink's True Black.  The orange layers are all Recollections.

All of the pattern papers, including 'Game On', are from DCWV's Tech Paper Pack.

I think she's just AH-dorable!

A Dear Friend

The yin to my yang (as she dubbed us) is watching my kitty for me next week while we're on vacation.  I bought specific stamps for her last year (on vacation) and never used them.  I *had* to get her a card made for when she comes to check up on our little Pippa.

Here is the card:

The card base is Papertrey Ink's True Black cardstock.  The pink plaid is from the scrap pile.  The black spots are from DCWV's Dots and Plaids paper pack.  The confetti paper is from Stampin' Up!.

The sentiment is by Impression Obsession and the embelishments are Jolee's Boutique.

The Zebra is from Kraftin' Kimmies.  He might be discontinued because I could find him on the website.  I colored using Copics and applied the shine with my beloved Stickles.
